With an Eye on the Past

The couple introduced subtle colors to many of
the whitewashed walls, such as sky blue in the living room, buttery
yellow in the dining room and forget-me-not blue in the master bedroom.
While studying in Paris years ago, Stacy developed a penchant for French
country furniture paired with rich and boldly colored fabrics. So each
of the rooms feature a blend of European antique reproduction furniture
and an array of imported fabrics boasting luxurious textures, color and
patterns. Upon entering the home visitors immediately step into the
formal dining room, which is furnished with an elegant harvest
table and hutch constructed with antique pine and paired with
French antique reproduction dining chairs. |

The blue-and-white palette is then carried into the adjoining
living room, which features an antique reproduction pine coffee
table, an overstaffed royal-blue down sofa and a blue tufted
ottoman.

| A spacious gourmet kitchen lies just beyond the living room. Two
separate walls are comprised of French doors that allow an abundance of
natural light to filter into the room at different times of the day. The
French doors near the island lead to a deck that overlooks an expansive
lawn and the original cow pond that has been converted to a goldfish
pond. The French doors in the breakfast nook open to a perennial and
rock garden
and provide a panoramic view of the neighboring working dairy farm. |

The master bedroom best exemplifies the Carlsons' signature style and
features a suite of white antique reproduction furniture that includes
an armoire, a king-sized bed, a bureau and two nightstands. The bed is
bedecked with a romantic blend of imported white and floral linens and
pillows. However, Lilly's old-fashioned white bassinet with its canopy
of sheer-white eyelet steals the show.
Although the Carlsons often miss the family, friends and cosmopolitan
lifestyle they left behind on the West Coast, they have grown accustomed
to calling Little Compton their home. |

"I am enchanted by my house. I love the tranquil setting and I love
being close to the ocean," says Stacy. "Even though we have only lived
here a short while, we already know so many people in town and it's nice
to feel as though you are part of a community."
